South Kirkby is a small town located in the metropolitan borough of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The town has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was known as Kirkby. The town was later renamed South Kirkby to distinguish it from the nearby town of North Kirkby. South Kirkby is a former mining town that was once home to several coal mines. The town's mining heritage is still evident in the many colliery buildings that still stand in the town.

South Kirkby is a close-knit community that is home to around 6,000 people. The town has a range of amenities including shops, pubs, and restaurants.
