Polebrook is a small village located in the county of Northamptonshire, England. It is situated approximately 10 miles west of Peterborough and 5 miles east of Oundle. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is home to a number of historic buildings, including the 13th-century St. John the Baptist Church. The village also has a primary school, a post office, and a pub.
One of the most notable features of Polebrook is its connection to the United States Air Force. During World War II, the village was home to a USAAF airfield, which was used by the 351st Bombardment Group. The airfield was operational from 1943 to 1945 and played a significant role in the Allied bombing campaign against Germany. Today, the airfield is no longer in use, but there are still reminders of its presence in the village, including a memorial to the 351st Bombardment Group.
Despite its small size, Polebrook has a strong sense of community and is home to a number of local events throughout the year. These include the Polebrook Village Fete, which takes place in the summer and features a range of stalls, games, and activities for all ages. The village also has a cricket club, which plays matches throughout the summer months, and a number of walking and cycling routes that allow visitors to explore the surrounding countryside.
