The village is situated approximately 6 miles north-west of the town of Gainsborough and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The village of Springthorpe has a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and was known as "Speretorp". The village was once home to a medieval castle, which was destroyed during the English Civil War. Today, the only remains of the castle are the earthworks that can be seen in the surrounding fields.
