Welcome to Broughton Common

Broughton Common is a beautiful and serene nature reserve located in the heart of Lincolnshire. The common is a vast expanse of heathland, woodland, and grassland that is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The area is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, and bird watchers who come to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and the abundance of wildlife. The common is also a great place for families to spend a day out, with plenty of picnic areas and walking trails to explore.

One of the most striking features of Broughton Common is its heathland, which is a rare and valuable habitat in the UK. The heathland is home to a variety of plants and animals that are adapted to the harsh conditions of the area, including heather, gorse, and lizards. The common is also home to several species of birds, including the nightjar, which is a rare and elusive bird that can be heard calling at dusk. Visitors to the common can also spot other wildlife such as deer, foxes, and rabbits.

Broughton Common is not only a beautiful natural area, but it also has a rich cultural history. The common was once used as a training ground for soldiers during World War II, and there are still remnants of the military presence in the area, including old trenches and bomb craters. The common is also home to several ancient burial mounds, which are believed to date back to the Bronze Age. These mounds are a fascinating glimpse into the past and provide a unique insight into the lives of the people who lived in the area thousands of years ago.
