Welcome to Holwell

Holwell is a small village located in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles east of Melton Mowbray and 10 miles north of Oakham. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is home to a number of historic buildings, including the 12th-century St Leonard's Church. The village also has a primary school, a village hall, and a pub called The Stilton Cheese Inn.

One of the most notable features of Holwell is its connection to the famous cheese, Stilton. The village is said to be the birthplace of Stilton cheese, which was first made in the 18th century by a local farmer named Cooper Thornhill. The cheese quickly became popular and was soon being sold in London and other major cities. Today, Stilton cheese is still made in the area and is protected by a certification trademark that ensures it is made to a specific recipe and in a specific area.

Despite its small size, Holwell has a strong sense of community and is home to a number of local events throughout the year. These include an annual village fete, a fireworks display, and a Christmas market. The village also has a number of local clubs and societies, including a gardening club, a history society, and a women's institute. Overall, Holwell is a charming village with a rich history and a strong sense of community spirit.
