Hellingly is a small village located in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The village is situated on the A267 road, which connects the towns of Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne. Hellingly is known for its beautiful countryside, which is popular with walkers and cyclists. The village is also home to a number of historic buildings, including the Grade II listed Hellingly Hospital, which was once a psychiatric hospital.
Hellingly Hospital was built in 1898 and was originally known as the East Sussex County Asylum. The hospital was designed by architect George Thomas Hine and was one of the largest psychiatric hospitals in the country. The hospital was closed in 1994 and has since been converted into a business park. The hospital's clock tower and water tower still stand and are visible from miles around.
Hellingly is also home to the Hellingly Cricket Club, which was founded in 1878. The club plays its home matches at Horsebridge Recreation Ground, which is located on the outskirts of the village. The ground has a pavilion and a bar, and is used for a variety of other events throughout the year, including music festivals and charity events. The club has a number of teams, including a women's team and a junior team, and is always looking for new members.
