Welcome to Bowburn

Bowburn is a small village located in County Durham, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles south-east of Durham city centre and has a population of around 5,000 people. The village has a rich history, dating back to the 12th century when it was known as "Bolleburn". It was originally a farming community, but with the arrival of the coal mining industry in the 19th century, the village grew rapidly.

One of the most notable landmarks in Bowburn is St. John's Church, which was built in the 19th century and is still in use today. The church is a Grade II listed building and features a beautiful stained glass window depicting St. John the Baptist. Another important feature of the village is Bowburn Hall, a 19th-century mansion that has been converted into a hotel and conference centre. The hall is set in 5 acres of landscaped gardens and is a popular venue for weddings and other events.

Bowburn is also home to a number of local amenities, including a primary school, a community centre, and several shops and pubs. The village has a strong sense of community, with many local events and activities taking place throughout the year. These include an annual carnival, a Christmas lights switch-on, and a summer fete. Overall, Bowburn is a charming village with a rich history and a strong sense of community spirit.
