Welcome to Litton Mill

Situated in the heart of the Peak District, the village of Litton Mill carries a significant weight of industrial history within its boundaries. Originally established as a cotton spinning mill village in the late 18th century, it is named after the mill around which it was built. Today, the old mill building stands as a poignant reminder of the village's past, having been converted into residential apartments, while the village itself remains a charming ensemble of stone cottages, meandering paths, and rolling green landscapes. The presence of the River Wye, running through Litton Mill, enhances the natural beauty of the village, adding a serene aquatic melody to its tranquil ambiance.

The community spirit in Litton Mill, while smaller in number than many other Derbyshire villages, is no less profound. A place where everyone knows each other, it encapsulates the essence of a tight-knit, rural community. The village doesn't have a traditional pub or a shop, with the mill itself being the central focal point, but residents congregate for various community activities, seasonal celebrations, and country walks. The annual Litton Mill Fete brings villagers together in a jubilant summer gathering, featuring homemade food, local crafts, traditional games, and lively conversation.

Encircling the village of Litton Mill are the captivating landscapes of the Peak District, one of England's most beloved national parks. The village serves as a perfect base for exploring the stunning surrounding scenery, from its picturesque valleys and moorlands to its vast array of walking trails. Just a short walk away is the enchanting Monsal Trail, a converted railway line that offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, and the dramatic sight of the Monsal Head viaduct. Nearby, the magnificent limestone ravine of Water-cum-Jolly Dale provides an ideal spot for birdwatching, picnicking, and fly fishing. The blend of Litton Mill's industrial heritage, community spirit, and natural beauty make it a compelling chapter in the story of the Peak District.
