Welcome to Barrow Hill

Barrow Hill is a small village located in Derbyshire, England. It is situated near the town of Staveley and is known for its railway heritage. The village is home to the Barrow Hill Roundhouse, which is a Grade II listed building and the last surviving operational roundhouse in the United Kingdom. The roundhouse was built in 1870 and was used for the maintenance and repair of steam locomotives. Today, it is a museum and a popular tourist attraction.

Apart from the roundhouse, Barrow Hill is also known for its annual railway gala, which takes place in September. The gala attracts railway enthusiasts from all over the country and features steam and diesel locomotives, model railways, and other railway-related exhibits. The event is a great opportunity for visitors to learn about the history of the railways and to see some of the most iconic locomotives in action.

In addition to its railway heritage, Barrow Hill is also a great place for nature lovers. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is home to several nature reserves, including the Barrow Hill Local Nature Reserve and the Staveley Nature Reserve. These reserves are home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, butterflies, and wildflowers, and are a great place for a peaceful walk or picnic. Overall, Barrow Hill is a charming village with a rich history and plenty to offer visitors.
