Welcome to Macclesfield Canal

Macclesfield Canal is a beautiful waterway that runs through the Cheshire countryside. It was built in the early 19th century to transport goods from the mills and factories of Macclesfield to the rest of the country. Today, the canal is a popular destination for boaters, walkers, and cyclists who come to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and stunning scenery.

The canal is 26 miles long and runs from Marple in Greater Manchester to Kidsgrove in Staffordshire. It passes through some of the most picturesque parts of Cheshire, including the villages of Bollington and Congleton. Along the way, there are many locks, aqueducts, and bridges to admire, as well as a number of historic buildings and landmarks.

One of the highlights of the Macclesfield Canal is the Hovis Mill in Macclesfield. This iconic building was used as the backdrop for the famous Hovis bread advert in the 1970s and is now a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can take a guided tour of the mill and learn about the history of the town and the canal. Overall, the Macclesfield Canal is a wonderful place to visit for anyone who loves nature, history, and the great outdoors.
